Listen to our Stories

Collective storytelling can be a way of building a sense of community and shared vision that strengthens the environmental justice movement. When members of environmental justice organizations and community residents share and listen to each other’s stories they identify issues and solutions to common problems. The stories presented here are just a few of the stories which SETF has collected from community residents using Story Corps. CACHET was able to enlarge the scope of the project with StoryCorps so that as many residents as possible could participate. Participants included members of the SETF Community Advisory Board and other community residents in South Chicago, East Side, Hegewisch, South Deering, Jeffrey Manor and generally represent the diversity of residents in the Southeast Chicago area. Their insights have helped shape the direction and scope of research with CACHET and informed ways in which CACHET and other academicians can collaborate with them on strengthening environmental health policy in their communities.
