Researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago are conducting a pilot study to characterize levels of toenail manganese, lead, and other metals in 150 Southeast (SE) Chicago residents. We are looking for one adult and one child/youth from each home near SH Bell that had the soil tested for metals by the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) or the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). If your child/youth lives in one of these homes, then he/she is eligible to participate. Choosing to decline participation is completely fine and will not have any influence on existing or future opportunities to engage with the University of Illinois at Chicago, the Southeast Environmental Task Force, or the Chicago South East Side Coalition to Ban Petcoke in any of their events or activities.

It’s our favorite time of the year. Because we want to encourage folks and their families to enjoy the fall weather and our beautiful parks, we partnered with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to host a fun event at the Williams Power Recreation Center. Lots of fun activities and kids are encouraged to wear their costumes.
